Cough Management is a tool within CoughPro that subscribers can use to learn about and help leverage Behavioral Cough Suppression Therapy (BCST). The goal with Cough Management is not to suppress cough, rather it is to reduce the urge to cough.
To access Cough Management, select the “Take Action” icon at the bottom of the home screen and answer the series of questions to determine your suitability for use of the Cough Management feature.
Cough Management is not appropriate for use in those who have a productive cough, who have a condition such a bronchitis or lung disease, who have a cough related to smoking, a cough as a side effect of medication, or a cough due to an active respiratory illness. Please answer the questions honestly and accurately, and once complete, you will be informed as to whether or not you can proceed to Cough Management.
There are three sections within Cough Management;
- Education - provides information necessary to understand BCST and properly work through subsequent content
- Technique - includes detailed instruction and video on how to perform 3 cough suppression techniques that you can apply in your daily life
- Triggers - lets you explore possible triggers and how to work through them using BCST and the Three Rs
Each of these sections contains content in the format of audio, text, and/or video lessons. Sections must be completed in sequential order so that you can properly heighten your ability to anticipate when coughs will come as well as develop skills to suppress cough. Over time, the urge to cough itself will go down. Once all sections are completed, you can refer back to them at any time.
